Invitation to Potential Gardeners
Mission Statement: The Chuckanut Center grows Food, Skills and a Resilient Community.Our organization partners with individuals and other organizations to create is looking for a wide variety of educational gardens that support and demonstrate our mission statement.
We are currently accepting applications for educational gardens for 2017 and beyond.
Garden proposals are evaluated once a year for the garden space available for the start of the Spring garden season.
Proposals will be evaluated for those that best align with the mission of Chuckanut Center.
Garden Proposals will be collected by the Garden Coordinator, reviewed by the Garden Committee and forwarded to the Board for final approval. You will be notified once we have completed our review, most likely by late March if your proposal has been approved
We support proposals that either directly donate food to community, through entities causes such as the Food Bank, or provide an educational component to our community, youth or specific group.
Some topics for garden examples include :
Gardening (Medicinal, Culinary, Fragrance or Ethnic)
Permaculture/techniques in general/biodynamics
Raised bed techniques/no-till gardening
Soil Building Techniques
Food Production in Urban Spaces
Edible plants including small tree fruit, nuts, berries, herbs and veggie production
Small Scale Grain and Alternative grains, Beans
Composting Techniques/Demo area
Food Bank Garden
Winter Garden garden crops: Russian and Asian varieties specific to cooler climates
Root Cellaring plants
Garden to Table- growing food, harvesting and cooking for youth and adults
